Day 1: Addis Ababa – Semera – Afdera – Erta Ale
Fly from Addis Ababa to Semera. Upon arrival, meet your driver and continue to Afdera, passing rugged, moon-like landscapes shaped by volcanic rifts, black lava flows, and gravel deserts. Arrive at Lake Afdera, a salt-covered lake, before heading to Erta Ale volcano. Trek along the flank of Erta Ale with camel support, exploring lava formations, tubes, hornitos, and rare desert vegetation. Descend to the crater floor to witness the mesmerizing boiling lava lake.

Day 2: Erta Ale – Hamedela (Lake Asale)
Drive north to Lake Asale near Ahmed Ela. Observe camel caravans transporting salt blocks to the highlands and watch local salt workers prepare for the next day’s work. Enjoy a refreshing swim in Lake Asale and take in the serene surroundings.

Day 3: Hamedela – Dallol – Mekele
Visit the salt mines at Dallo to watch workers cut, shape, and load salt onto camel caravans. Explore Dallol’s vibrant hot springs and mineral-rich landscapes, with stunning sulfur and potash colors. Marvel at the towering natural salt formations before driving to Mekele for overnight stay.

Day 4: Mekele – Addis Ababa – Lalibela
Transfer to the airport for an early morning flight to Addis Ababa, then connect to Lalibela. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and begin exploring the town’s world-renowned rock-hewn churches and the surrounding Chain Mountains.

Day 5: Lalibela – Full Day Exploration
Discover Lalibela’s 11 monolithic churches carved in the 12th century.
