Itinerary

Day 1: Lalibela – Asheton Mariam – Hudad Plateau

Begin your trek from Lalibela (2,600m) and ascend to Asheton Mariam Church (3,150m), carved into a cliff with sweeping views of the surrounding highlands. Continue to the serene Hudad Plateau, enjoying the dramatic landscapes and local villages along the way. Overnight stay at a local eco-lodge or community guesthouse.

Day 2: Adidega – Abuna Yosef Summit (4,260m)

Set out early to trek through highland villages and afro-alpine terrain. Reach the summit area of Abuna Yosef, one of Ethiopia’s highest peaks, where you may spot endemic wildlife including Ethiopian wolves and Gelada baboons. Overnight stay in a local community guesthouse, immersing yourself in the culture and lifestyle of the highland communities.

Day 3: Abuna Yosef – Return to Lalibela

Descend from the highlands back toward Lalibela, passing through rural villages and walking alongside locals on their daily routines or market visits. Arrive in Lalibela by the afternoon, with optional visits to its remarkable rock-hewn churches. In the evening, enjoy cultural experiences such as traditional Azmari music at a local Tej bar.
