Rising in the southeast of Ethiopia, Bale Mountains National Park is a place of breathtaking beauty and extraordinary biodiversity. This vast wilderness features towering volcanic peaks, sweeping Afroalpine plateaus, sparkling glacial lakes, and the misty depths of the Harenna Forest—one of the last and largest cloud forests in the country.
The park is a sanctuary for rare and endemic species, including the graceful mountain Nyala and the elusive Ethiopian wolf, the rarest canid in the world. It is also Africa’s largest Afroalpine habitat, home to unique plants and wildlife found nowhere else on Earth.
Shaped over millennia by lava flows, glaciers, and the dramatic forces of the Great Rift Valley, the Bale Mountains reveal a landscape of rugged cliffs, deep gorges, roaring waterfalls, and vast valleys that seem untouched by time.
